There really is so much good going on in our area. In Granville alone you can now:
1. Get Jeni's Ice Cream- their slogan uses the word "splendid" and they're right! River Road Coffee is the go-to place! Try the Thai Spice or Salty Caramel...my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
2. The wine shop (and chef's table) at the Granville Inn! You must experience the fun of entering the red door (off courtyard- park in usual parking lot and walk beyond the front entrance) and seeing what they've created- it is lovely. And it is filled with all sorts of goodies- I found the perfect beverage for tonight's dinner!
3. The Junto Club is Open! Lunch was delicious today. Of course sitting outside and having lunch with a friend is always special but a unique and tasty sandwhich (accompnied by FANTASTIC warm olives) served on my favorite Lucky Cat bread is an extra treat. (This is the old Wine Cashe at River Road- under the Short Story.)
And downtown Newark, The Works is a drop off point for care packages going to the troops! If you want more information on how to participate send me an email and send you the list of things that can be included! ssleithauser@roadrunner.com
Of course there are many other wonderful things happening- I just wanted to share a few that we'll be enjoying on Newark-Granville Road!

Good day!
Thank you John Weigand, Village Council members, Clare, Peter, Joe and Sally Leithauser and all the others that emailed, called, made a comment, wrote a letter, attended tonight's meeting, contributed and supported Granville Rotary's build a bridge to Raccoon Valley Park. A big step forward occurred tonight to help make this a reality. Granville's Village council passed a resolution to financially support the ODOT grant application! It was a good day on Newark-Granville Road. (PS-the good day is also in part because of a very beneficial field trip to the Columbus Art Museum- the Chiholy exhibit is amazing-the paintings, basket/blanket collection and influence on pieces I've never seen are truly gorgeous and worth seeing in person- Denison alums/friends take note- special event on April 15th at 5:30- check out denison.edu/alumni- events!

We the People....
Our Spring Break theme this year was "we the people" since we went to DC and Maryland to have fun with our people- stoner family in maryland. I'll update more about the fantastic, incredible time we had learning about our nation's history and government and enjoying amazing family time in many ways....what I want to share now is how inspired we were.
We the people- we all of us- anyone reading, our neighbors, kids, friends- can make a difference. There are so many ways we can be involved to shape and influence our communities and this country. We're all busy and over the next four weeks the life on Newark-Granville road is VERY full, luckily it is with things that involve us building our community- we hope you'll join us.
The first opportunity connects with the last post- please read below and help us build a bridge in Granville!! Join us at this Wed's (April 7)Village Council meeting (you don't have to live in the village to attend or speak) to share your thoughts at the public comment time (7:30) about the bridge to Racoon Valley Park- Clare and Peter are preparing their statements- yes our time in DC was very inspiring!

Building community....
Living on Newark-Granville road is a delight but there are some things that would make it even better....a bridge to Raccoon Valley Park which would also mean a bridge to River Road Coffee, Granville Fitness and the other great things offered on River Road....We love to ride our bikes, run and walk into the village but we'd like to go to these other places safely (and riding on Main street isn't an option.) We love baseball, being able to ride bikes or take a run to see a game is something we'd really like to have happen and thanks to Granville Rotary it may happen!
Please help make it happen- let our village council members and township trustees know you care and you too want this bridge!
Know a source for funding- let John Weigand know (jweigand@cog-med.com or 740 587 1245)-just please do this ASAP- the April 7th Village Council meeting is key- talk to these folks before then- today-lets not miss out on an opportunity to strengthen our community's connectivity. This bridge project has passed the initial phase of the Ohio Dept. of Transportation (ODOT) funding process. 80% of the funding of the project would be provided by ODOT enhancement grant. 20% of the cost needs to come from our community- great opportunity thanks to Rotary funds and time and coordination.
Interested in knowing more, helping this effort- contact John Weygand or me. My focus is the library levy ( vote May 4th- issue 4!!) however I can't help but spread the word about this opportunity to connect us to one another in active and happy ways.
Comments on a Classic.
You all know I love Lilly Pulitzer so it won't be surprising to know I love Liberty of London. I'm drawn to happy cheery colors and objects. My father's Liberty of London ties always have made me smile- even as a child. When Joe and I were in London a number of years ago a highlight of the trip was finding the Liberty of London store. The visit is very clear in my mind- I learned a great deal about design and was impressed with the creative, stylish and beautiful things all in one place.
A few weeks ago my sister in law shared with me that Liberty of London was designing a line for Target. This week I happened to stop by for a quick errand at Target and immediately saw the Liberty dresses for women. I made a beeline for the children's area and was rewarded with the most darling sundresses and bathing suits. I wanted to squeal in delight- I think I may have. I was giddy making my way through the store impressed with all the items with the sweet yet bold, statement making, pretty patterns on fabulous things- tea pots, note cards, blouses....I need to go back- I missed the ties for men!?!
Thank you Target and Liberty of London- I love when a classic is presented in good taste in an inclusive manner!

Oh the weather outside is......
....making me think of my childhood and smile! I'm excited my kids are having the opportunity to sled and play like my siblings and I did! All of a sudden memories of sledding at the school's hill from the tennis court and the dog going with us- chasing kids down the hill and stealing hats- are flooding back to me. One memory was triggered when we drove by our house the other day and Peter declared- "Sparky (our black and white mutt) is sledding at the Pfau's house!" I quickly turned around and went back...sure enough the dog was having a grand time. We parked, went over and called his name- poor dog was so confused- he was convinced his kids were bundled up and sledding. He looked from us to the those sledding numerous times before joining us to be escorted safely home.
Saturday night we were having our "romantic" (the word sent the kids happily running to bed) dinner when we noticed across the street- NIGHT SLEDDING! It was beautiful for so many reasons. The various shades of black, white and shadows, the silent happiness that was obvious from the kids energy and gestures, and the parents creation of such a unique opportunity. It evoked my memories of "night skiing". I moved to Altoona, PA when I was a junior in high school. I was quickly welcomed and embraced into the 3-year high school by some great sophomores. One of the activities that was a treat for me was ski-club. My parents were wise to let my brother and me do something they had never done- we learned a new skill that has brought many joys for years after high school and provided opportunity for great friendships. The time at Blue Knob on those evenings were very special and beautiful- just like Saturday Night's night sledding.
I could go on and on, as the memoires are as plentiful of the snowflakes this season! This is just a glimpse of what I'm seeing on Newark-Granville Road this winter!
