Leithauser End of 2018/ Welcome 2019 Card!

What a Wonderful Year 2018 was indeed!  I've been fortunate  to have time to reflect on pictures and posts recently.   I can not share the reactions here, I am grateful facebook/ instagram captured it and share as the year goes.  What I appreciate is the foundation these good times have built upon- not just a great trip to the OBX with Stoners in 2018 or Leithausers lake time over a holiday -repeated get together for years in these now beloved places have made memories all the more rich and valued.  Camp for the girls isn't just camp- its beautiful journeys to West Virginia that started when I was a girl.  The college searches are fun- nice to have Clare and Peter close for efficiencies! Wooster it is for Clare, although I thought it would be Peter's- he has loved basketball camp there.  We'll see what 2019 holds for him.  I remember my search and thank my parents great coaching that led me to Denison and the liberal arts education.  It wasn't the school I picked for myself from "the book".  What would my life be like if we hadn't stopped in Granville when traveling to Ohio.  And yay Joe for following Scott to Granville in 1986. 2018 is wonderful as it will be one of those important years when we reflect in the future.  Good to know now!

Not shown on the 2018 card:  basketball, field hockey, tennis, golf, swim team, Moundbuilders Country Club, a full life in Granville and beyond thanks to so many dear friends, special trips you can find in earlier posts or call and ask us!  Joe and I are both having success with our fulfiling careers- Data Analytics and Development- we work in incredible folks! We're very blessed, we count our blessings and are grateful for a wonderful 2018!!!  It wasn't perfect and certainly some challenaging times- but a year full of wonder as we reflect, count our blessings and look forward to what 2019 will bring.

And as always we hope you'll join us to celebrate, gather, thank and connect at our annual Derby Party! Once invited always invited- save the date- Saturday, May 4, 2018- details on the blog this spring!!  The photographs of Clare are from her senior photo session with Susan Miller:
Future post with more amazing photos coming soon!!  https://www.facebook.com/Susan-Miller-Photography-227616353932244/

So here is scoop on these pics with some behind the scenes scoop:

Joe and Susan top left corner- knocking on doors for the Granville School levy- earlier blog bout it. Love to partner with my beloved Joe!

Leithauser 5- top center- Keeneland Fall 2018- love love this tradition, all the more fun this year with expanded Granville group! Love that we all love to dress-up, enjoy the math\handicapping lessons and shopping in the south.

Leithauser 3 kids- right top corner- Wooster bookstore- this was her magic day. Thanks to cousin Kathy for setting up the perfect visit- an International Political Science class, where she understood thanks to GHS Global Studies and a visit with the Lacrosse coaches.  That led to the invite to return and clinic with the team, that led to the offer to join the team! Dream come true for Clare- liberal arts school and playing lax!

Center right side- Homestead pool with the Stoner cousins- even rain didn't dampen our summer get together. We missed Clare- working as a camp counselor- but really value the fun at this historic southern retreat!  Louisa is Sarah's daughter standing, Grace and Emma- Matthew's daughters on the left.

Center right side- Joe and Sally- post lax game at Bryn Du, Granville.  Sports certainly provides so many lessons and bonding times in our lives on Newark-Granville Road!

Bottom right corner- Congratulations Will Leithauser! Taken at St. Charles Graduation with the Leithuaser family- so proud of Joe's godson.  He is doing so well at University Cincinnati!

Center bottom- Family cocktail picture on the Homestead porch- Nana/Pap love to get us together under one roof and we try to capture it with a photo.  We coordinated this around camp drop off- time with Clare wasn't on site but still quality time!

Left bottom corner- neighbor trick-or-treat- we have great neighbors- this is one fun moment! Thanks Tina Wayne Berman for these costumes!!

Left side- Peter shares a dance with me during dinner at The Homestead- hmmm many pictures from that weekend made the card- I really must value that time!!  Also love the tradition of a dance- with Joe, my Dad, my brother, my brother in law, the girls with their brother, Peter with Nana.....

Left side- December tree decorating with Sanaya- our Denison host student from India and our classmate's daughter!  And...Lucy- the new one year old St. Bernard pup we adopted in December!!
That evening was full with a visit to the Works for the glass artist-in-residence show, picked up Indian food at Taste of India in Heath, chased down the dog as she escaped and it freaked Sally out and we were not the best at remaining calm but found her at the neighbors....and then drove to see amazing Christmas lights in Licking County before taking Sanaya home.

The year isn't over and the winter season has just begun as it is the Winter Solstice, so check back for 2018 holiday wrap up next week!  Thanks for reading, sharing, caring and staying in touch!
Warmly- Susan with Joe, Clare, Peter and Sally!

A post for a Sunday in December.

I wanted to post this yesterday- on Sunday. It makes sense for Sunday posts to have religious direction.  Content today is looking back and looking forward.

I've wanted to share this sermon preached at FPC in early December for weeks, love that technology  allows us to share things like this!!  Karen Chakoian, First Presbyterian's Pastor wrote this sermon. Janice Hilkerbaumer, our Parish Associate delivered it- so well.  I love teamwork and this was the epitome of partnership.  Most important is the message!  Here is it, The Messy Lineage of Jesus:

https://www.granpres.org/sermons/2018/12/6/the-messy-lineage-of-jesus?fbclid=IwAR3am0Qw5RYOhIUk5zgzQqc-zo-rKavT9aVbPVvqs-tRdI-AZB4y5J2bD4I

A new friend asked about where to attend Christmas Eve service in Granville.  I wanted to share insights on all the churches.  I tend to like to know the options and I like to be fair.  Each church has so much to offer.  However I love our church and want to make sure this friend and all of you readers know how welcome you are at First Presbyterian Church of Granville.  The challenge is which service!!?!!  The 4:30 is so sweet and simple- very close to my heart.  It just isn't the children participating- it is the adults and young adults behind the scenes!  The 6:30 Service with the amazing Angel Choir- you won't be sorry!! Like to sing the carols on Christmas Eve? This service is for you!  I've been known to attend multiple services to feed my soul in all directions. The quiet, stillness and sweetness of the remarkable event deserves a service like the 9:30 pm.  I do miss midnight services from my young adult life but recognize what an effort it is to do these!! Thank you FPC!! This is from Facebook:

Join us on Christmas Eve!
4:30pm | Family Worship with Children's Choir
6:30pm | Lessons and Carols with Angel Youth Choir
9:00pm | Intimate Communion Service with Chancel Choir

Here is the link to the FPC site.  This is the church in Granville on the north west corner, brown stone.  https://www.granpres.org

Please know you are always invited! Christmas Eve is special and wonderful but so is
every Sunday. It is a great way to start the week, find support for our world and make new friends.  All this said above...here is an awesome quote that just appeared in my Facebook feed!!

I believe churches are meant for praising God. But so are 2am car rides, showers, coffee shops, the gym, conversation with friends, strangers, etc  Don't let a building confine your faith because we will never change the world by just going to church we need to be the church.

Amen- Lauren, I need to figure out who wrote this and give credit.  Life on Newark-Granville Road- Sunday post on a Monday, church and love of God, love of our Advent season and all the lessons everywhere!

Join us on Christmas Eve!
4:30pm | Family Worship with Children's Choir
6:30pm | Lessons and Carols with Angel Youth Choir

Ankle Update- Surgery Again, Now Nesting

Blog updates on Newark-Granville Road really love a musical number to tell the story, set the tone.  Here I Come Again by Dolly Parton.....take a listen:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bflkeWVTNk0

Words could be:

Here you come again
Just when I've begun to get myself together
You waltz right in the door
Just like you've done before
And wrap my ankle with a lot of bandage!

Here you come again
Just when I'm about to make it work without you
You looked into my ankle
And knew just what to do
And pretty soon I'm grateful just how I came to meet you

All I got to do is use the icer and elevate
And follow the instruction, let down my defenses
Just leave it up to you and wait
You're setting up my mind and fillin' up my senses

Here you come again
Lookin' better now with Dr. Berlett
And shakin' me up so that all I really know
Is here you come again
And here I go......

Ankle Update- follow up on the August 29th post:  surgery happened- yesterday!  This will be short as I'm still "under the influence" and not feeling any pain.  My surgeon was right- surgery was needed. Ruptured tendon, screws were causing distress/difficult to remove. I'll know more next week at my follow-up meeting.  I can't stress enough how grateful I am for my last Physical Therapist who matched my gut reaction and said- this isn't right, it can be better, go see this specialist. We see lots of success with this physician.  I'm glad I was pointed to Dr. Berlett.

I'm home following doctor's orders- foot elevated for a week- prevent swelling.  This won't be easy for me but it is worth it.  And I needed the orders- I was thinking about how I could go out for dinner Saturday and the Lessons and Carols service at Denison Sunday- nope.  Getting in and out of my house is the hardest part of this anyway.  So the no go is okay with me, I'm home for a week!

Lucy the new dog is thrilled to have me here and I'm happy to have the bonding time.  No meal trains- appreciate the offers. Friends are calling and working with Joe and me directly on our needs.  I will be going to Maryland post follow-up appointment to recuperate in Maryland with my parents and sister. I'm so fortunate to have this opportunity- my parents home is a ranch and my Mom is a fabulous cook and care provider. I'll take the quality time with them too.

Life on Newark-Granville- I know this drill. My family knows it.  Lessons being applied from the last time- mostly things about ourselves. I will ask for help and I'm grateful for the care. I'm grateful for the repairs and this opportunity to work with Dr. Berlett on my ankle.  Everyone said ankle breaks are complicated- they were right.  The big lesson I keep repeating- see a specialist, trust your gut, and in my life on NG Road- don't be in such a hurry.
Lucy by my side.
12-17-18 Update- all is well! I've been following doctor's orders.  No pain, some slight discomfort when I shift under the bandage, it feels superficial- maybe incision site??  Medication a bit blah for my tummy.  Cocktail hour has returned to Life on Newark-Granville Road.  We'll know more tomorrow- looking forward to follow-up with my doctor!!  Next stage and seeing what is under the bandage will be good for me.  So grateful for the meals, visits, care from Joe and kids, friends. The phone calls, texts and emails mean so so much.  The timing actually has been great as I've loved being in my living room on Newark-Granville Road.

I've caught up on Shutterfly projects and printed the blog from 2018!  Bonding and getting to know Lucy is good.  She has found her perch/place and is snoring as I type.   I did binge on Ozark and excited about the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! I laughed a lot with the S2 E1!! Started Jack Ryan one last night. Movie night opportunities- recommendations matter.  Danielle thanks for Deck the Halls- I LOVE Kristen Chenoweth!!

So you can tell- I'm not bored and embracing the "down time". I'm keeping up with work via email and grateful for the partnership there.  Important stuff moving forward!!  I'm tired of asking for help but have no choice. Life on Newark-Granville Road- so much more with kids and exams, December to-dos but from my nest all is good.

Denison Parent Helps us Navigate Parenthood!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slPPn7iWvPw

Please watch this fun, real, great touch point TedX talk.  Susan Lyon is one of the parents I've had the honor to meet and work with at Denison.  My role with philanthropy is amazing and it is the people that share their resources and perspectives that make it special-  Enjoy!!

I've wanted to share this fun find in my life on Newark-Granville for some time.  Today's conversation in Sunday School- Families in Faith- at Granville FPC, reminded me of this gem.  We're not perfect parents or people but we're given Grace and inspired to do so with others.  It is the season to prepare for the baby that will save us, remind us, care for us and walk with us as not perfect parents.

Yoga yesterday shared a wonderful message. When the negative happens, how to turn it into the positive.  The "to" this happened "to" me- argh, can be the this happened "for" me.  This ties to the video and Susan's message.  Our conversation this morning about what we do wrong, but recognizing we can turn it into "for"  This connects to the message - we are creating resilient, capable adults- our goal.  FPC friends and so many others-we're all in it together and showing them how "faith" works in our lives.  We're giving the gift of God's love and the best gift of all arriving December 25th.

Welcome December, Welcome Lucy our new Pup!

Yes Santa, I want a dog please.
Beautiful day to find a tree!

Successful tree crew 2018.
3 kids, a tree and a dog...life is good!

Sally meets the new dog.
Peter meets the new dog

Thanks for my new home. Peter and Lucy
Susan and Lucy- on pick-up night in Hagerstown.

Driving Miss Lucy to Ohio!

We said we were ready for a dog and the universe provided. Okay- there really is no good time to get a dog, but...Call it an early Christmas gift or restoration of balance in our lives on Newark-Granville Road.  We're dog people and all feels right with Lucy here.

Lucy's story- I mentioned to a colleague (animal lover) that we were ready to look for a dog.  I promised the kids once fall travel was over we'd start looking.  I was tagged me on Facebook when she saw potential pups. A video showcasing toddlers engaging with this sweet faced Saint Bernard mix needing a new home caught my attention. Joe watched the video and we explored options.  She was in eastern Pennsylvania and I was traveling to DC.  It would work to add a drive home.  I called the vet and was able to secure appointments and boarding for our holiday plans.  Things seemed to fall into place so Friday night I made arrangements to meet and possibly bring her home.

Life on Newark-Granville is all about adopting dogs.  I remember visiting my college roommate Lori Kurschner after graduation. She inspired me with her adopted golden retriever, it made sense- so many dogs need homes. Often I helped place dogs, taking them in for a bit.  I even helped my brother's dog Lindy find a home in Kentucky when I was there- meeting him half way to connect from Kansas City.  Joe and I adopted Jax the Bouvier early in our marriage.  It is nice to have the story and history of a dog when finding a match.  The video Lucy's mother posted was so helpful.  We need a dog all three kids can walk and a dog that likes other dogs.  We tested that with Lucy right off the bat- we spent the night in Hagerstown with sweet Maggie. Maggie and Lucy's tails didn't stop wagging and not a peep during introduction. Nana and Pap gave her the thumbs up too. At the tree farm today Lucy was a happy camper around all the dogs.  Reality is she loves them- winces a bit when dogs are walking by the house. It is like she is saying- please, please can we go play?

It has been a treat to connect with this sweet, eager to please 1 year old pup.  We bonded immediately and all three kids are thrilled to have her.  Joe recognizes the pros outweigh the cons and our home is more complete.  The pictures tell the story and as Clare says- it is official. If Mom is blogging it is official and no 30 day trial - Lucy is here to stay.  Welcome home Lucy, welcome to your life on Newark-Granville Road.  We recognize there is work to do, we're grateful for the help and support and partnership. We'll keep you posted about life with Lucy in our life on Newark-Granville Road.

Traditions...what does Holiday mean here? It Depends!

Asked Joe and the kids- what does holiday mean and what are your favorite traditions?  Answers:

Clare:  I like them, I like being with family, friends, Jesus, and I like time off from school.  (Unpromted) My favorite holidays are: 1st Christmas and 2nd 4th of July.  (Note she spends 4th of July at Camp.)
Favorite Tradition:  Ice Skating with Prophaters-when that has not happened we found (and will find) other ways to skate on Christmas Eve Day. I like alternating celebrating with various families and like to travel. Nana cookies.

Sally:  Celebrating with family, the food- call out to mash potatoes, fun family traditions and TRAVEL!  Christmas Holiday also includes the 12 day count down to my birthday.
Favorite traditions: 4:30 FPC service, reading the Night Before Christmas with cousins and Nana and Pap.

Peter: A time for family and friends to get together and celebrate whatever season it is.
Favorite Tradition: Traveling to various family members' homes, being with cousins and hosting family here.

Joe: Relaxation, Cocktail hours with family.
Favorite Traditions: Christmas Tree- cutting it down as a family.  New Year's Days good luck foods.

Susan: Where to? Who is coming?  Holidays are hosting time or being hosted time.  It means bringing people together.

I love these answers, it aligns with the message of today's blog, started before I had my captured the above answers. In our life on Newark-Granville Road we're flexible.  I certainly understand those that want their traditions to be in their homes. I've seen the articles on the web advocating, giving permission, helping young families make the decision to stay home.  I want to also advocate for not staying home.

This is just one side, but one that has certainly created special fun "traditions" and memories for our family.  We never would of had the epic Granville Inn story if my parents and sister with her family had not travelled from Maryland to our house and village.  I won't retell it here, but I love to tell the story- ask about "Greg saying- it is a Christmas miracle, the Inn has NFL.com" and our cocktail hour 12-25-16".  I've also loved packing up the kids and giving my parents the gift of grand kids in their home on Christmas morning.  I'm grateful Joe has been willing to celebrate our faith in my home church or my sister's- seeing my niece/goddaughter in her pageant! Again memories that could not have been made anywhere else- the giggles, the oos and ahh and again stories we can't make up.  Fabulous babysitter Kelly to rescue shipping the gifts left behind!

In our home we rotate, and I LOVE to host!!  I missed cooking my own turkey, setting my formal table this year. However I LOVED my brother and sister in law opening their home to include my parents. Their house is spacious and warm and she makes sure everyone is delighted with the menu. As much as I love hosting, I love to be hosted.  Thank you to all family members that roll with our tradition of being flexible.  Thank you to choir directors and coaches that allow us to miss a bit of the season or special services.

I recognize I have family I love and who love me.  It isn't perfect- we fight, bicker, disagree and not everyone follows this logic and feelings are hurt, disappointment happens.  This is LIFE! We find the joy where we can and oh we do!  Reality is our kids are learning what life is all about through holiday and Life on NG Traditions!  It will be interesting to see how our kids execute holidays.  Clare talked about that she doesn't love to cook and questioned how will she will ever make a turkey. Quickly declaring-she wants a husband that cooks.  We talked about how I was taught to do the meal- watching my mother. I'm that kind of cook. Clare will not be that kind of cook- she follows a recipe to the tee.  However I told her I will come make her turkey!  Oh if I could have a crystal ball!  And yes, my parents were flexible at the holidays too. I have many amazing memories in warm welcoming homes with extended family (both of my parents are only children) so we went to Great Aunt and Uncle homes and their families.  I understand why my mother still wants to host and I do love to "go home".  It isn't always easy but it is worth it.

As Madonna sings- it would be so nice...Holiday....a time to Celebrate!
It was nice, a very nice holiday weekend, showcasing Gratitude and family time!
Life on Newark-Granville is looking forward to launching  December this week and the holiday fun that it brings.

Joe snapped this picture today- she was excited to wear her new school sweatshirt!!
Clare, Wooster Class of 2023!

Yes- Joe and I enjoyed NYC over the weekend. Part of my work was traveling by train up the Hudson River to Irvington for a meeting. What a treat.  I do love my job because I engage, learn, work, support, and spend time with wonderful people in fabulous places.  The weekend included a friend get-away and was just what we needed.  A highlight was seeing friends' children thriving in the city- so impressive.  These "kids", amazing young adults are our friends too!  Snapshots of cool places for work.....

NYC Library- work location Thursday afternoon!

all aboard- heading North to Irvington,NY

Going away with local friends is a good to do!!Sally took off Sunday for Columbus. Youth And Government, put on by the YMCA is spectacular.  Clare and Peter have participated for years. We're so pleased Sally joined the Middle School program this year.  Dear friends make it all the more special- thanks ladies- you are doing awesome!

And Peter- Peter stayed home with strep! Good timing- he won't be contagious by the time Nana and Pap arrive!
Life on Newark-Granville Road loves to go places and come home!  Excited for Clare to find her home away from home for 2019-20!

Peace, praying for peace tonight.

There is much to share and just no energy to do so today.  I will leave a few musings here, take aways from last week and my day.

The theme of the day launched with our church, FPC participating in the bells of peace: https://www.stripes.com/news/us/bells-will-ring-on-veterans-day-to-mark-100-years-since-wwi-armistice-1.555683   It was good to start with quiet and hear our bells and other community bells.

Last night we stayed home and had a low key evening- peaceful. I made steak au pouvre and enjoyed being with Joe and Sally.  We are human beings, not human doings.  We need to "be".  Thankyou Reverend Doris Westfall from St. Luke's in Granville for sharing that sentiment while we took time to connect in swasey Chapel on Thursday. Thank you for all you did for the Denison community, students, staff and family.  All clergy and health care providers deserve gratitude for their time, expertise and care last week.

I was so grateful to friends who put the Prayer of St. Francis to comfort and guide during Denison's loss last week. It is a wonderful prayer, an important prayer. My brain takes me to music and this song kept finding its way. I hope you will benefit by listening to it:  make me an instrument of your peace sarah mclachlan   Thank you YouTube for delivering a number of interpretations/performances.

And while I'm sharing Peace....I'll end with one of my favorite songs, from "my time" as Sally likes to say...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9ymhfB5nys  Natalie Merchant performing Peace Train by Cat Stephens.

Lessons keep repeating in my life on Newark-Granville Road. The importance of listening, really listening and hearing what people are saying is so imporant.  Doing this brings peace and I'm grateful.

The Votes Came In- #Worthit Granville School Levy

See the picture, see our kids- I snapped this as we learned the news of the likely winner for the school levy.  The Yes moved ahead by 140 and all precincts had reported- a big cheer brought them to the doorway. We hosted the watch party for the Granville School Levy committee last night.  Good news, it became the celebration party.  Fascinating to meet these folks that have met on Sunday evenings at 7 pm, canvassed the community with yard signs and messages, all with devotion and wisdom.

C, P, and S had come and gone from homework in their rooms all night to the gathering all night. The levy election had their attention and conversations- at school, on the playing fields, even social media a bit.  Clare declared this morning she learned the general R-D congress results from an international camp friend.

Clare voted this election, and I'm pleased to say she was an informed voter. She watched debates and read websites to make her own decisions.  No doubt she listened to a bit to what we discuss and say.  The kids logged in to track our friend, their friend and mentor Craig Baldwin's results. His loss is a disappointment.  It makes this all personal and that is good.

Lessons about life on Newark-Granville Road might be a better title for this blog. Last night was filled with them.  Our kids know we're grateful for the opposition. We're grateful for the right we have to agree and disagree, explore and contemplate and most importantly act.   We met new people- Joe through the committee work and for me last night.  We connected with long-serving, extremely dedicated members of the community.  It was good to talk and be together.

We said yes to hosting because we are centrally located as people wanted to attend other watch events.  We know how to host events like this- we don't worry that the chairs don't match and the tablecloth is a bit spotty- people needed to be together, in a nonpublic way.  That was the lesson of the last school levy that did not move to a celebration party- instead, it inspired- what is next.
I wanted to set an example for our kids.  Mission accomplished.  Last night good, hard-working people came together to reflect and just be together.  I'm glad they were able to relax and be happy.   Fun to see who brought what and how. (Leithauser lunch boxes are deliciously stocked)  Last night what is next was discussed too!  Transparency, conversations, knowledge all need to continue.
And know they tried- they asked the Superintendent for a day off to celebrate- it didn't happen but we smiled.

Time to get to work, but I could not say- thank you to all that worked on this levy and give you or myself follow-up from yesterday's post. Thank you to all that ran for office, all that have, do and will serve us. Thank you to all that have, do and will protect America's freedoms.   Life on Newark-Granville is not perfect and has ups and downs but it works. Looking at those three faces, sharing their interest and care is a good thing.

PLEASE VOTE!

I love my life on Newark-Granville Road in Granville in Ohio in the USA. And I really do love to vote.  Voter turn-out is critical in this election.  I'm shocked by the number of current parents that voted or better said that did not vote in the May election.

Please vote.  Already voted early or absentee-way to go, THANK YOU!

If voting in Ohio, please consider a vote for Judge Craig Baldwin: https://www.facebook.com/pg/TheHonorableJudgeBaldwin/about/?ref=page_internal

If voting in Granville, please consider a YES vote for the School Levy:  https://www.granvilleaces.org  Our schools, our community really needs this funding.

I encourage you to be an informed voter, here is the link to our ballot in Licking County! https://licking.ohioboe.com/apps/ballotlist.aspx  Want to talk through some of this, I'm happy to do so- just not on social media.

We live in interesting times.  In my life on Newark-Granville Road, as we conduct our Sunday week prep we know it will an emotional week.  Sunday school discussion is about Grace. I'm always grateful and hopeful Grace will be with us all this week.  Thanks for reading, talking, respecting, sharing and being a voter.

A rainy Sunday is a good day to knock on doors.  Why were we knocking on doors today? We were asking for support for the Granville Schools on the November 6th ballot. What do you learn when you knock on neighbor's doors and ask a political question?  Here are my take aways:

1. We don't know enough of our neighbors.  So I'm calling the folks in the cup-du-sac-ish area our neighbors- we could walk there. Everyone says we know everyone in Granville. I think we knew three people that answered the door and maybe recognized only a few more names.
2. It was really nice to talk to people in our neighborhood.  We met some fantastic people.  It was good to say hello to those we do know.  We liked saying thank you to those with signs for the school levy in their yard.
3.  I miss having a dog, Joe isn't there yet. It was nice to pet a few today!
4. I appreciate those that took the time to answer the door.  We were quick with our message- "we're here today asking for your support."  We heard opposition and listened, we understand- we don't like to pay more taxes either.  There were a fair amount on those streets with early voters. Most people told us they had voted for us- we're not sure that is true or not, maybe they were being nice. I'd rather hear the "why not yes".
5. I'm really proud and appreciate Joe's passion and commitment to our schools and this effort.
I hope you saw "our" letter in the Granville Sentinel.https://www.newarkadvocate.com/story/news/local/2018/10/19/readers-give-their-views-upcoming-election/1651503002/  Joe wrote it.  I provided minor edits.  I did point him a direction to get information.  The reality is I needed his perspective, his math and look at the numbers and I was glad he could attend the meeting to learn more. School funding isn't simple.  He came away more convinced we needed the last levy and as a result of that not passing, now this levy.  I listened to him defend his point of view today- our schools need this funding, cuts will be required, our property values are connected to our strong schools.  Want to learn more about the Granville School Levy on the ballot and why we need it, why our schools are #worthit visit this site:  https://www.granvilleaces.org   or reach out- Joe and I will be happy to talk about it, answer questions.
6.  Rainy Sundays are good day to knock on doors- lots of football on the TV.
7. I always like to walk with Joe.
8. I just may be more interested in opening the door when people knock and I know they're there to talk politics.  I've now walked their shoes and will listen. I appreciated the thanks we received today.
9. I'm ready for Halloween and trick-or-treat...the memories came flooding back...and I was a tiny bit thirsty!
10. I really like where we live. And not just because...great people live here and we are close to town, able to walk and ride bikes, get the kids to and from activities, to work for me and to fabulous Denison activities easily.  I like the schools.  We know our kids will be prepared for college. Clare in her selection process sat in on classes and feels ready. We have partners with the teachers.  They're safe and cared for by awesome teachers.  Is it perfect - no, do I have some ideas and thoughts- yes, but it is worth every tax dollar we pay, every check we write for beyond and we're willing to pay more- not just for our kids but for the communities.  Extra thank you to those that don't have kids in the school that feel the same way. Thank you for being here and adding perspective and being in relationship with us and being directly or indirectly in my life on Newark-Granville Road.

Saturday Reflection on 50th Birthday Wrap-Up

Rainy, gray day- matches the mood for a memorial service.  It is still hard to believe Mary Jane McDonald is no longer just down the street....Broadway.  She always lived there in my life on NG Road.  I met MJ when I went to work at Denison in 1999, just before she retired. Timing is everything and time was on my side.  It was an honor and incredible opportunity to witness first hand this special leader in action.  No doubt about it MJ's commitment and example connect to my pride in my own work and the impact of our alma mater.

I was also lucky to call her my friend.  She served our community so well. We shared love of good things: cooking, Ina Garten receipes, SCOTCH, books, entertaining and community involvement. Today's memorial service had wonderful sentiment shared by her family and dear friends- they said it best. She was remarkable and I'm lucky to have been coached and mentored by her and I was not alone.  Just reading her obituary is inspiring, she leaves a beautiful legacy in so many ways.

Last week we were in Kentucky.  It was a very special long-weekend that started in Louisville with wonderful learning experiences- hands-on and tasty!  I toured my first bourbon distillery and was quite impressed- history, science and art.  Touring the KY Derby museum was a treat and something I've always wanted to do as every winter I place my party order from there!  In 1997 I attended the Derby, what a treat to return to Churchhill Downs on a less crowded day.  The purpose of the trip was taking a hat making class with Derby Millner, Jenny Gerst Pfanenstiel- check her and her incredible hats out at: https://www.facebook.com/formemillinery/?eid=ARDjykkzWctb8gzCOAWBdQtaocsvYU4uk_ZnVkSJJDl7XRdHrI1colJZF3zDngXmhDQgiKPhZvRbWB5h&timeline_context_item_type=intro_card_work&timeline_context_item_source=685196116&fref=tag  It was a cherished day of creativity and friendship.  Louisville's restaurants and lounges were quite the treat! Lots of happy toasting in my life off of NG Road!  Three cheers for the last official birthday get-away!  The cheering continued as we met families at Keeneland in Lexington, making it an overnight trip. A favorite fall destination was a treat to share with our Granville group.

Work took me to the west coast- Tuesday to Friday was about Denison with some me-time that included reading two books, one by Denison alumnus, James Clear- see earlier post.  Innovation- Rothy's and nature's beauty- ocean and trees, crashing waves, woodsy scent- senses sensations. The highlight is the people- Denisonians are special all over the world.  My flight was on time to get me home for execution of the last birthday gift.  Joe bought me tickets at the Midland to see Dan Tyminski.  What a fantastic way to be welcomed home- dinner and a show, night cap and juke box sing along at The Draft House.

Fun times in KY- PLEASE! THANKYOU!
Thank you all for the incredible care to make turing 50 so very special- starting way back in May! It is Saturday and I'm in love with my life on NG Road

Connect with Denison's International Students!

Life on Newark-Granville Road is all the better with our Denison International Student.  I always smile when friends share how they connect with Denison students!  Want to do this too? Here is more info and who to contact, you will sent an application.  Maybe you've reached out and wanted to do this in the past. I'm happy to say this department now has more staff. Now is the time, thank you for learning more!

From Denison International Student Services:

We are reaching out to individuals and families to ask if you may be interested in connecting with our students from abroad. Our program offers students the opportunity to learn about everyday life in the U.S. by getting to know residents in the area. In turn, our community members expand their own horizons through friendship with a student from another country. We ask that community members/hosts commit to building a relationship during the student’s first year. After the first year, students and hosts can decide whether to continue the relationship. While there are different levels of involvement that are agreed upon between student and host, a large time commitment is not necessary.

Our International Friendship Program has a long history at Denison and many wonderful relationships have blossomed over the years. For more information about the International Friendship Program, please email Chad Buckwalter (buckwalterc@denison.edu) or Dorota Kendrick (kendrickd@denison.edu).

Of course, I'm happy to tell you about our relationship with Sanaya!  As I said- our lives on NG Road are all the better with her.  The kids have enjoyed getting to know her, we've enjoyed her cooking and appreciated the perspective she shares with us about her home country of India and life on the "hill".  Thanks for considering a formal connection, it helps Denison and connects you to the college in a special way.

Good luck James and Kristy- Book Launch!

Quick post today- congratulations to James Clear '08 (Denison) on the release of his book:  Atomic Habits! https://jamesclear.com/about  Visit his website to learn more, order the book- 40% off- tomorrow is launch date- woo hoo! I work very closely with his partner, wife, spouse- Kristy Barngrover Clear '10.

I'm looking forward to this read- the full title is:

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

I could go on and on about why I think I need to read this book.  I've broken a bad habit- nail biting, or have I?   Sally loves to help me remove my hands from my mouth.  I was able to change my behavior for the outcome of more attractive hands, a more professional presentation.  I've read James' blog and seen his interviews and I appreciate the "why" in his approach.  What are the behaviors tied to our activities?  James' shares his journey, approach and own behaviors.  It should be a good read.

Book club talks with authors has taught me one thing- it isn't easy. The publication world is not what we think it is, or maybe not what it once was. I know how focused and dedicated James has have to have been for this day to have arrived. All the best to you both.  Woo Hoo to you and Congratultations. Enjoy it.

Thanks to Coach Deegan- today's blogt http://www.coachmikedeegan.com/it-takes-a-team/  reminded me of the launch and my desire to pre-order the book.  Made it- done!  I really appreciate Mike's perspective today about the extended team, the team behind us, not directly on the field.

To be continued....a dear friend, colleague, mentor..often signed off this way and I love to use it too.  In my life on Newark-Granville Road this topic will be continued...I'll share more opportunities to engage with James, thoughts on the book once I read it, etc, etc...

Friendships

I feel very lucky to have the friends I have in my life on NG Road I've always said adult friendships are hard. Adulting is hard primarily because of the need to prioritize so much- family, work, exercise, time for yourself.  Dig deep into each of these topics and the days fill up fast.  I could work 24 7 if I wanted to and some days I want to. I'm fortunate to love my job.  Joe and I have a good marriage and we enjoy time together, balancing us time and kid/family time is something that takes work.  Our kids- we love them and their activities- the math never adds up, we can't get to every game but enjoy the ones we do attend.  These two things alone limit friend time so no wonder this article hits home.

As I coach my girls on their friendship, I hope to be a good role model.  I try to make time for my friends and enjoy friend time.  I'm all about efficiency! When I can mix friend time and exercise- bonus!  I take girls trips and value the catch-up time in a beautiful place.  I have friends that help me so much- listen, understand the demands on my time.  This article was on Facebook and I found it full of interesting nuggets.

https://grownandflown.com/moms-need-friendship-grow-older/

I'm working on being more mindful.  Recognizing and appreciating what is in the here and now.  Last night we enjoyed being with our daughter's friends parents that are our friends too.   A dear friend hosted a beautiful event that will help me on my efforts on mindfulness.   What a treat to learn with and from a friend, to be surrounded by her friends and my friends.  I'll wrap this up with a quote:

A man's friendships are one of the best measures of his worth. Charles Darwin

Birthday Figure Eights

If you read this blog enough, you know I believe life is figure eights.  There are many circles and cycles and even squiggles that create the patterns of our lives.  Birthdays are special figure eights, birthdays as a mother all the more rewarding.  Today, Clare's 18th birthday, has had me thinking back on that amazing day and event.  Joe and I  have been retelling the story to one another reflecting on where we where in 2000 as September turned to October and we became a family of three.  When our family took on new roles: grandparents, aunts and uncles, godparents, mother, father.  Clare likes to confirm the story and I'm eager to share.

I really need an index for LONGR.  I've printed these blogs for prosperity.  What I cannot recall is what stories have been documented and how many times.  I'm all about fair and would certainly want to make sure if I'm going to tell or even retell Clare's birth day tale, I've done the same for the others. Life is not fair and is not intentionally unfair.  No doubt you know Peter's story as he arrived as a 60th birthday gift for Pap and an Easter basket item for Clare. Sally's ice storm shell game was one for the record books.  And since it is Clare's 18th I'm delighting in the reflection.

Clare's birthday story really starts with her due date of September 30th.  Ann and Scott threw a party to celebrate.  No, but their annual Octoberfest party was the day and I was pleased to attend.  I remember someone inquiring about my birth status,  Ann pointed to me very pregnant me saying- there she is.  The September 30th due date had many sharing commentary on if the baby would go to school or not- Kindergarten, yes we're a family of planners.  Clare's October 1st arrival eliminated a decision.  We were ready for our baby- what brought labor? The mulitple flights to the top floor of the Ohio Theater to see the Magic Flute?  Sauerkraut and bratwurst?  Who knows.  I remember like it was yesterday the 3 am wake up, knowing something was different. Returning to sleep only to be awoken by this unique and exciting sensation.  At 4 I called the doctor who told me I was welcome to come in or try to rest and make my way around 7.  Joe was in need of more sleep and I was happy to put some order to our nest.  I went downstairs and tidied, took care of to-dos for the next few days, then showered- waking Joe up after 6 to make our way to Riverside.  Once we were settled in, my water broken and an approximate time established I called my parents and sister.  Sarah made her way to Hagerstown and they headed west.  Labor moved quickly so Joe had to call and say- slow down- the baby will be here before you can.  Dr. Kelly thought he'd have time to go home for lunch, it was not the case.  By 1:15 Clare Catherine had joined the world.  We had three names selected for each sex, as soon as I held her I knew she was my CC, my baby girl....Joe let me name her.  Caroline and Elizabeth just did not fit our brown eyed, brown haired beauty.

Her godmother, godfather, aunts, grandmother and grandfather- named Pap and Nana (by Clare) arrived and promptly fell head over heels in love.  I enjoyed my time in the hospital - soaking up the change in pace from work and embraced our family of three.  I always have and always will love babies. Joe gave me a beautiful rolling ring of three bands intertwined, to celebrate and represent how we had become just that- I wear it daily with my wedding band and engagement ring.  Beer and pizza was day one fun, scotch and appetizers day two....we made quite the little party on the 5th floor.

I truly remember and enjoy this reflecting figure eight- over and over I like to recall this beautiful happy birth day!  Life on Newark-Granville Road has been something all these 17 years.  We celebrated Clare's 1st birthday with an Open House here- launching our social scene on NG Road.  October 1st always brings the true feeling of fall and a day worth reliving.  I love you dear Clare- you are smart, hardworking, gritty, loyal and all you. I love you,  your family loves you. You make us proud and we value all you share.  Eighteen is the start of something fabulous and new...enjoy the figure eights on and off Newark-Granville Road.

Beautiful Harvest, Embracing Transitions

Yesterday was the Autumn Equinox, the official day to say farewell to summer and welcome fall.  It was a beautiful day ending with a stunning sunset.  It was the perfect day to harvest our bonus crop in our life on Newark-Granville Road this Fall- homegrown decor!

Yes- volunteer pumpkins!  This happened YEARS ago and I've been hoping for the return of the vine.  In both the front and back yards, discarded pumpkins and gourds from last  or maybe even past year's decorations sprouted and produced fruit er- vegetables.  We've been watching, waiting and hoping they would ripen and not be eaten by wildlife.  Two orange globes were enticing to something and ended up with holes- they'll remain in the back yard.  Three pumpkins made it to decoration status- two on the front steps and one on the mantel.  Two gourds are part of the stoop!

The week and the weekend have provided plentiful activity- what else is new on NGR.  Denison's ReMix- Entrepreneurial Summit was simply amazing, incredible.  The Vail Series Concert on Friday night- unbelievably fantastic.  Ideas, inspiration, relationships and pure bliss were the harvests of the week.  I welcomed some me time on Saturday as I drove Clare to Wooster, Ohio for an overnight stay.  The gift of my drive time- an amazing sunset.  A sky that looked like it went on forever. Clouds in a repetitive pattern I've never quite seen- designer delight. The colors vibrant and luminescent.  The sun's true state of fire apparent and powerful.  Bean's ready for harvest on the east side of the road's reflected back the red light casting a color all its own, an answer, a ripple, a cry of gratitude to the west's presentation.  It felt like I was on top of the world. Ohio's Amish Country was shining, showing me a special site.

A site we'll get use to as Clare enjoyed her time so much she has decided to apply Early Decision.  We'll keep you posted, it looks pretty good.  Her first visit last winter included time in a class and a conversation with the Women's Lacrosse Coach. She has stayed in touch and benefited from team time twice. Last night's stay included the opportunity to meet potential future classmates from NY, IL, OH and WI...her host from Kansas City offered great hospitality.  Life on Newark-Granville Road reaping what has been sowed.

HATSOFF happened, what is next- all thanks to Partnership.

Congratulations to all volunteer leaders, particularly this year's co-chairs, Jill and Andrew Guanciale, and the staff at The Works, HATSOFF was another huge hit. Knowing first hand what it takes, I tip my hat to a beautiful evening.  Fantastic crowd of new faces for us- that means new people engaging with this central Ohio treasure, and a mix of dear friends we love seeing out and about dressed up for a celebratory night.  Every component of this important fundraiser was executed well: food (yay LMH), servers (Park National), entertainment, the emcee and auctioneers, donated items, decorations, bars and bartenders, the balance of showcasing the museum and NEW SCIDOME, and delivering a theme of heavenly delight.  The Celestial Ball was indeed out of this world.

A Newark-Granville shout-out to my neighbor, friend and designer table partner.  Amanda Love's creative talent and energy is magnificent.  I knew this soon upon our introduction and our family has benefited as it shines within her hospitality.    What a treat to tap her time and expertise for The Works' benefit ball.  It was a bonus for me to assist, accompanying the journey from concept to delight of Mars inspired glow, delighting the Denison table's guests on Saturday night.  I enjoyed having a way to participate beyond a auction donation and happy party attendee.  It was a small role, but an important one and one made possible because of Amanda.

Life on Newark-Granville road is all about partnerships.  Joe and I are partners and embracing the Granville School Levy- stay tuned!  We're often asking for money- for Denison, The Works, FPC and other causes....many of you received a letter to help fund the levy. Joe was cosigner as co-chair with Matt Miller. I'm listed on letterhead as committee member.  We're fitting this in to a busy Fall because it is important and so very worth it.  Stay tuned, we'll share more soon.

Thank you to all are partners- our neighbors, friends, family, colleagues and committee members.  Good things in 2018 within so many organizations- book clubs, dinner dance groups, museums, schools, business and even our family.

Pictures on Facebook- a few coming soon here.

Me time in Maine

I ran away to Maine. I've always wanted to experience Maine. Thanks to a dear friend I went to Maine and: ate lobster in many forms- steamed, pie, pizza.  I like lobster enough (you know crab is my all time favorite food, not just seafood) but in Maine I loved lobster.  I also loved learning about lobster fishing.  It is beautiful.  I also enjoyed lots of clams- steamed, fried and in chowder.  Seafood chowder at The Maine Diner- amazing!

I swam in the ocean, I walked the beach and took in the rocky shore line.  I found the rocks of Maine that have called to me since we bought a beautiful Kathy Anderson painting. Just as I love to know an author's process and the "rest of the story" in photographs...paintings in our home have their own back stories/ connections.

I enjoyed good old girl time. I made new friends. I celebrated with an old friend.  I relaxed, slept unbelievably well and read a wonderful book.  I took a plane, train and car ride.   I walked and shopped, went to a sing-along bar and we had many toasts. I missed Joe, Clare, Peter and Sally so very much and am grateful for thier support of my trip, my vacation, my time for me- in Maine!  Some pictures that capture only some of the fun....

sunrise from my window....ahhhh
exhilarating swim!

& Long Weekend Love

&,  I love "and"
It was a long weekend of "ands" and I loved every moment.

I loved the end of the week, kick-off of the new school year Friday fun.  Strawberries on the Lawn is Denison code for First Faculty Meeting, new faculty introductions and a reception that includes partners/spouses.  Even Joe loves to attend!  Work and Fun, End of week Beginnings!
Double the fun with a 50th birthday surprise party for Denison friend- James Benseler '91.  Christina entertains well, it was a treat to share the fun and see the great folks they united.

Saturday Summer- Farmer's Market, Denison field hockey with a shoot-out WIN, a dip in the pool, a ride in the convertible, arranging Dahlias, creating cocktails- happy place.  Relaxing AND some tasks all balanced for a great day.  Family trek to Apple Valley, led to a beautiful summer night under the stars....with college football.  Let the transition/ the in between Summer AND Fall commence.

Sunday Funday- Sleeping in felt great- mother nature brought in the fog to prevent the annual swim across the lake.  Brunch Mexican-style soaking up family festivities, complete with a pinata!  The kids were so happy to go tubing and I loved being the spotter. Seeing all three kids smiling, laughing, helping, encouraging and just having fun together.  My heart was so full.  Thank you Scott and Ann for creating such atmosphere and memories.  The day ended with MCC's Seafood Fest!!  Oh what a night....Sally and Peter joined us with dear friends at this special treat.  We're lucky to balance family AND friends.

Monday did bring some work.  Denison's year is started and classes go on and I had a productive morning. AND THEN I  took a half day vacation to do what I do on Labor Day- go to the pool. The Moundbuilders pool.  The beautiful pool. The safe, happy, community focused, happy place where I float, sip, read, relax, swim, talk, cool-off and just be with good people. I share this with kids, Joe and so many wonderful friends.  Thank you friends who shared the day and all the days that have made beautiful memories at the pool.

It was a weekend of being the moments, being with wonderful people in beautiful places, just being in love with my life on Newark-Granville Road AND balancing and appreciating the place of shifts & transition.

Ankle Update...it's been awhile.....

Last Ankle update- September of 2017...yikes!  I've been waiting to share the news of surgery.  I didn't want to whine about the process of BWC.  I'm feeling compelled to share the update so when I do have the surgery date, it isn't out of the blue.

So in September 2017 I shared the update that took me to my third PT practice.  I have to say I loved this group- Athletico in New Albany. I didn't love the drive but I was so pleased and grateful for the partnership. I felt this while in motion and I feel this way looking back and the support to the place I am now.  In December when we went as far as we could with PT, my care provider encouraged me to seek a specialist.  Things still didn't feel right and she felt there was more ground to cover. She even volunteered to go with me to the consult.

I made my way to the ankle specialist and appreciated the approach and thought about next steps.  His diagnosis and thoughts about opportunities to improve my range of motion and abilities felt/feel right.  I'm doing OK- I walk and wear real shoes, and I'm not in pain.  I do have some discomfort and interesting pressures.  I'm not confident my ankle will pivot and take a jump, hop...when I run if I have to it feels stiff and awkward.

Surgery has been recommended.  Hearing this news was difficult.  It took some time to accept and come to terms with the return to a state of non-weight bearing.  I need this ankle, I need more movement and exercise.  The frustration has been the process to move forward. I started this in March and we're still in the dance with BWC.  I'll keep you posted.

Lessons learned- unfortunately it took me until I was fifty to recognize the importance of 2nd opinions.  I should have slowed down and not been in a hurry. EVERYONE told me how complicated ankle injuries are and I didn't listen.  I should have sought the specialist sooner, at the beginning and then when I didn't think things were moving in a certain direction. My gut challenged actions, but I stepped back. I blogged about this in September and I'll say it again.  You have to be your own advocate. You have to learn, question and seek other thoughts- you have to lead your recovery and care.

I'm leading, I'm sharing, I'm challenging and I hope to help others so that is why I'm sharing the ankle updates in my life on NG Road.  It will be awhile until the surgery happens. It is going to be an amazing Fall in my Life ON NG Road!!

Wonderful company and Predicting Rain

When something good comes along, I like to share.  For months I've been looking for a new weather app.  Intellicast was my go-to. It was recommended by a pilot and was quite accurate. It morphed into something else that was adequate.  That something else, transitions to some radar storm thing that is not adequate.  Last week in my life on NG Road I needed accuracy in regard to the weather.

I thought to myself- what do the serious event planners use?  So I asked Ashley of Ashley Stephan Weddings & Events  and she shared  Dark Skies.  I asked the Denison Athletic Director- certainly there needs to be reliable information with collegiate sporting events- she recommended Dark Skies and admitted to watching four cites.  Then I asked two friends and guess what- Dark Skies! I downloaded Dark Skies and actually paid for the app, I was not disappointed.  If anyone drives a convertible, like me, you should use Dark Skies.  This app counted down the rain drops to the minute- amazing.  It didn't just say rain arriving in 10 minutes- it described the intensity- sprinkle and light rain were all I experienced on Saturday evening, thankfully. Tonight the downpour was predicted and arrived.  I thought you'd like to know, in case you are interested or maybe you already know and I've validated your good sense!

The other god to share....They are Back!  Denison students are arriving daily and I'm ready. Fall athletes are here football arrived 8-10 and students supporting their arrival- res hall staff, trainers, etc...International students, Class of 2022 Pre-Orientations.  I admit I like the summer focus on work time, but Denison is a college. The college is about students. They are our purpose, our center, our energy.  And..they bring parents!  I love my parents.  Yes, I love Jeanne and Mike Stoner- love them more because...they're Denison parents- P '90 '91 '94!  I love Nadine and Jim Leithauser- you got it DU Parents- P'88 '90.  I truly love the Denison parents I have the honor to work, support, engage, guide, partner, assist.  My role is Parent and Family Philanthropy and so they are "my" parents.  They are our parents- Denison's parents. They are amazing Denisonians, members of the DU family and make a difference.  I'm at the time of year knee deep in welcomes and introductions and I really do love it....I thought you should know.

Life on Newark-Granville Road is busy- school start up for the kids, Clare's senior year, Peter's junior year, Sally's 8th grade year- last year of MS....all good!  Town and Country Saturday was really lovely- hip hip hooray for an incredible committee.  And the rain came and we were prepared.  The Denison parents are making their way back-be on the look out on Sunday, August 26th- First Year Move in Day and the Induction Ceremony for the Class of 2022! First day of Classes for all- August 30th....First Day of School in Granville....Wed, August 22nd- here come the buses on Newark-Granville Road!

Local Looks and commentary.....Mid August 2018

Off the beaten path- not on NG Road.  Busy and wonerful. Location. Location. Location and word of mouth! Have you been?  I had not and now I have been!  https://www.facebook.com/coffeeshackroasters/   I heard so many great things and finally was able to check out Coffee Shack in Heath! Make your plans to go now and lets talk!

Had a great day shopping in downtown Granville this week! Found a great GO BIG RED dress at Green Velvet and a classic, fun LBD!!  I've looked at this jewelry line in the photo many times at Kusmaul Gallery....can I wear these even though I don't have a teething baby?  What if I'm dreaming about having that baby? What about if I see babies out and just want to hold, cuddle and love on them?  Who has a senior in the house in her life in NG Road? ME! Maybe this is causing the baby cravings?  I'm all for progression, our children's growth, but..I am pausing to interpret thoughts in my head these days!! Back to the jewelry- http://www.kussmaulgallery.com/artists/  Make sure you visit the gallery go on a journey with James Young's art.  Back to the babies- I think I need to volunteer in the nursery at church.

Time to learn more about development on NG Road- take a look.  I believe these will be high quality homes and I'm all for more feet on the street in the right way.  I'm going to try to attend this meeting! Today I took advantage of office hours with our village manager- at the Farmers Market! How cool is that! I asked him about this project and traffic on NG Road. We had a great talk.  Medical facility, park, sidewalks- hmmmmI think I better get to the meeting and get the scoop!  Medical buildings mean tax dollars for our school- commercial, not residential!!!

Speaking of the Farmers Market- 8-11-18- full bounty- amazing, gorgeous, delicious and great community time.  August really is when Granville blooms, buzzes and delivers great joy to my life on NG Road!
